Citigroup Foundation
In early childhood and primary and secondary education, grants support early literacy development, technology-based curriculum resources and career and college preparation programs. The Foundation also provides grants for teacher training and innovative teaching strategies that increase student achievement. Programs that enhance learning by integrating the arts into school curricula and increase student access to leading cultural institutions are also funded. Toyota USA Foundation Grants
Education is the focus of Toyotas giving, with emphasis on primary and secondary schooling. In addition to funding national programs, Toyota supports the social well-being of communities where it has major operations (California, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New York and West Virginia). This includes assistance for Arts and Culture and Civic and Community Development. Toyota prefers to support programs, rather than sponsor events. Organizations must apply each year to the contributions program, and subsequent funding is contingent upon evaluation of previous activities.

Learning in the Arts Grants
National Endowment for the Arts "Learning in the Arts Grants" Program offers funding for projects that help children and youth acquire appreciation, knowledge, and understanding of and skills in the arts. Projects must provide participatory learning and engagement of students with skilled artists, teachers, and excellent art, and ensure the application of national, state, or local arts education standards. Target Stores Grants
Through its Store Grants, Target (www.target.com) supports local giving in the categories of Arts, Reading, and Family Violence Prevention.
The program awards Reading grants to schools, libraries, and nonprofit organizations, supporting programs such as weekend book clubs, after-school reading programs, and events encouraging family reading time. Arts grants are given to programs that bring the arts to schools or make it affordable for families to participate in cultural experiences, such as school touring programs, field trips to the theater or symphony, or artist residencies and workshops in schools. Family Violence Prevention grants support groups working to make individual homes and entire communities safer, such as child abuse counseling programs and shelters.
Eligible applicants must be nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status, schools, or units of government.
Most grants average between $1,000 and $3,000.
Funding is limited to the communities in which Target does business. Because applications will be reviewed as they are received, applicants are encouraged to apply early.

Dana Foundation Announces Arts Education Rural Initiative
Through its arts education grants program, the Dana Foundation ( http://www.dana.org/ ) supports innovative professional development programs leading to improved teaching of the performing arts in public schools. Beginning in 2007, the foundation will award grants to professional development programs in rural communities in the United States.
The Dana Foundation is interested primarily in training for professional artists teaching performing arts in public schools, and in-school arts specialists who teach performing arts in the public schools. In-school arts specialists are teachers who are part of the permanent school staff (full- or part-time) and who teach the performing arts as their primary area of instruction.
The foundations interests include but are not limited to the following: dance, music, or theater based on a specific pedagogy; and arts curricula integrated into a schools standard curriculum.
Dana offers one- and two-year grants, with the timeline to be determined by mutual agreement. Grants vary in size, with the largest award being $50,000. No grants are awarded directly to individuals. Dana does not award grants to individual schools or school districts.
Eligible candidates interested in requesting an arts education grant from the foundation are required to first submit a Letter of Intent online.
Projects funded in the next round of awards may not begin prior to January 1, 2007, when the 2007 awards will be announced. Letters of Intent may be submitted at any time, but grants are awarded once a year, in December. The deadline for submission of Letters of Intent for the 2007 round of grants is June 15, 2006. Letters of Intent received after June 15 will be considered for the 2008 grants cycle.

Airborne Teacher Trust Fund to Support Art and Music Programs
Airborne, Inc. (www.airbornehealth.com), maker of the cough and cold herbal supplement, has established the Airborne Teacher Trust Fund, a nonprofit charitable corporation, to fund art and music programs in elementary and middle schools that are in jeopardy of being lost due to budgetary cuts or limitations.
The Airborne Teacher Trust Fund is beginning with an investment of $250,000. In addition, a portion of the sale of every Airborne product will go toward building the fund and supporting programs. Grants ranging from $200 to $10,000 will be awarded to teachers to implement programs during the 2006-07 school year.
The Airborne Teacher Trust Fund will initially be offered to teachers from public and private schools in California, Florida, Louisiana, Massachusetts, and Missouri. Each quarter, additional states will become eligible until the program is rolled out nationally.
Teachers will be able to submit applications year-round. At the end of each quarter, the judges will select recipients from the applicant pool. Recipients will be announced each month of the following quarter. (The foundations calendar is as follows: 1st Quarter: August 2006 - October 2006; 2nd Quarter: November 2006 - January 2007; 3rd Quarter: February 2007 - April 2007.) The number of recipients and the recipients projects will determine how many announcements are made each month.
